Prayer for Northern Portugal
December 2008
If
you would like to pray for specific situations, please fill in the
prayer contact form and you will receive regular prayer updates.
Please pray for:
Missionaries, pastors and Christian workers in
Northern Portugal. Pray for courage, endurance and encouragement.
Portugal
isn't an easy place to work - the evangelical church is small and the
members not always very committed. The Protestant reformation didn't
reach Portugal, therefore Catholisism is very
strong and traditional Catholics are often very suspicious of Protestants.
Having said that, the situation is changing gradually and the
evangelical church is being recognised more and more, and is growing.
For the Penafiel church:
-
For
the challenges ahead - for the Porto church plant, for all the work
needed on the newly aquired premises, and for the church in
Vila Real (which the Penafiel church is responsible for) which has
been through difficult times.
For the Mondim church:
-
For strategy in making contacts and seeing
local people converted
in Cabeceiras de Basto.
-
Vila Grande: for a
deeper understanding in those who come, of the claims of the gospel
on their lives, and for conversions.
-
For growth and
division of cell groups.
-
For finding new premises for the church in Mondim as the present hall
is reaching its full capacity for the Sunday meeting.
-
For training up
leaders and establishing a leadership team.
-
For employment for
church members.
-
For the future of
the language school.
-
For opportunities
with students to share about the Lord.
-
For complete healing
for Carol's ankle.
For the
Ermesinde church:
-
For the new people attending the meetings in Vizela. That they will truly be converted and
committed to the church.
-
For the person coordinating the
storing and sending of the items collected for Africa.
-
For the money needed for the
new church building project.
For the Famalicão
church:
-
For numerical growth of the church they are planting.
-
That the new
believers will grow in maturity and responsiblity as they are being discipled.
-
For commitment of
all the believers to the work of God.
-
For an outpouring of
the Spirit in Famalicão.
Church-planting situations - Vizela, Fafe,
Celorico de Basto, Famalicão, are a few of the towns where
Christian workers are currently seeking to see churches planted.
The towns and cities that still have no
Evangelical witness.
Christian workers
to help in the various church
planting ministries and to reach out to the unevangelised towns and
villages. A few couples have left the area recently and the
number of workers are small for the task.
A
moving of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of sin and a
realization of the need to get right with God. Many are Catholic by
tradition, pray to Mary and to saints, and have little understanding
of what the Bible teaches about God. Some of the younger
people have rejected the Catholic church and are materialistic.
